What are Mind-Body Medicine Workshops?
Why do people need Mind-Body Therapy?
It’s really quite simple. There are so many distractions nowadays. So much multi-tasking going on by adults AND kids. And, to be honest, the child brain isn’t ready for it. Kids will text their friends while tweeting while Facebooking while watching TV and supposedly doing homework. Now, how can they possibly learn, let alone develop meaningful relationships? We adults are equally guilty. We are distracted and don’t really know what it’s like to focus on one task or one experience anymore.
And, worse yet, adults are focusing on the wrong things in their relationships. Example, how many times have you been sitting with friends or at dinner with your partner and instead of focusing on the conversation, you’re on your cell talking or texting?
Real intimate contact requires focusing on what is in front of you. Focusing is an embodied, tangible experience.
How do Mind-Body Therapy Workshops help you?
Mind-Body Medicine workshops are eight-week participatory classes in multiple techniques that help clients control their attention by improving their focus. They are certified with the Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Washington, D.C.
We teach different modalities of Mind-Body Medicine. Each week, groups learn:
- Autogenics (how you talk to yourself, and how it affects your body)
- Drawing (a form of healing)
- Genograms (family mapping)
- and Ritual (another form of healing)
Our workshops are limited to 4 to 8 carefully-selected participants, BUT they are not group therapy. A therapist holds 30-minute talks each week on the benefits of a specific therapy, the history behind it, why it’s important and how to apply it. Throughout the course of the workshops, the participants become a supportive, healing team by practicing with each other.
